Effective Memorisation Method: Ebbinghaus Method

In recent years, the word “Ebbinghaus” become very popular.

What is it? How to use it in learning? Here is the answer.

This mystery word comes from the German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. He devoted his life in researches of Experimental Psychology related to memory. 1885, in his book “Memory: A Contribution to Experimental Psychology”, he put forward the famous “Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve”.

According to his theories, when human brain begins to receive information, it also begins to forget. The forgetting rate is high at the first day, and then it becomes much lower.  Such a relationship between forgetting rate and time is presented as Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve. Based on this curve, he established the Ebbinghaus Method to Memorization as a way of review.

This method is effective for learning every subject. It can improve the memory rate and study efficiency significantly. Check yourself frequently for what you have learned can help keep the forgetting rate at the minimum.

How to use this curve in learning? For information calling for repeated memorization, such as English vocabulary and Chinese classical essays, make a study plan according to the curve. Review and check regularly or causally.

A form can make your arrangement of daily tasks reasonably and orderly. Then you should complete your tasks in time, as well as review and check frequently until you fulfill your goal.(Take the following 30-days study plan as example, knowledge will be consolidated after six reviews)
